River Humber
9th April 2006

I had a decent day out today with quite a number of sightings. The weather wasn't too good but at least the rain kept off for the most part.

I arrived on the pier at around 1230 and there was only the RIX OWL heading up the river for Goole or some other exciting place. It was starting to rain so I didn't hang about for very long and decided to visit the new exhibits at the Streetlife Museum on High Street. When I came out of there at around 1430 I went back to pier.

As I arrived there was quite a bit of action to be seen. BARBARA was the first sighting and apparently there had already been one vessel go up river already. Following closely behind was the ANTABE. At this point, Dean's tug the LASHETTE left Alexandra Dock and headed for the Humber Dock Basin to await the Amur-2517 that was booked for Albert Dock. WIEBKE D was next up and I spotted that the RIX HARRIER had penned out of Alex along with the Lashette. FAST WIL followed shortly after along with the MARIA H. The Gas tanker LIMA CHEMIST penned into Alexandra Dock around 1545. This left just the AMUR-2517 and the SEAWHEEL EXPRESS. The AMUR-2517 slowed down for the S.E. to allow her to pass. I managed to get some really nice shots of her as the sun had come out briefly.

Once the AMUR-2517 arrived off the old Victoria Dock the tugs took up position and took her up to Riverside Quay. They turned her around off there so that she could enter Albert Dock stern first. Slowly they inched her around and guided her into the dock. LASHETTE on the bows and the SHOVETTE to stern. What a fine view she made from the pier just behind the new glass building.

One nice surprise that I got was that when I went up on the Admirals Steps at the pier there was another ship enthusiast and photographer there. It only turned out to be JIMMY CHRISTIE from York. You know it's always nice to meet fellow shipping enthusiasts when out and about and even moreso ones that i've spoken to on email but not yet met. Hopefully I shall see you out and about a bit more Jimmy.
