| I was up at Hessle Road around lunchtime so I took my camera and grabbed some shots from the A63 roadbridge near the Daltrey Street Flyover.
From there I could see two trawlers on the Andrew Marr International berth - MARBELLA H771 and SWANELLA H1065. Over at the Wm Wright extension was the ever present CRISCILLA and a small ex-beamer the OCEAN DANCER. The blue hulled vessel that I saw is as yet unknown - perhaps an ex-RN Loyal Class tender? The Kinterbury was in Dry Dock and could not be fully seen from the bridge. From there I made my way up to the riverfront at the pier and saw a large vessel moving on the horizon at Killinghome Roads so I continued onto King. I have posted a couple of shots of barge wreckage at the old Victoria Dock site. For those that don't know, there was a large timber dock on site between Alexanda Dock and the River Hull. The Victoria Dock was built in 1850 and closed back in 1970. The dock was later filled in to make way for Garrison Road. The site is now a private housing estate. Only the original entrance on the River Hull and the inner basin on the River Humber remain to ever show that this was a large working dock. The wreckage that you can see is leftovers from the Albert Draper shipbreaking site that was in operation during the 1970s. Many of Hull's trawlers met their end here along with numerous barges and some coasters. The site had previously been occupied by Earles Shipbuliding Co. in the late 19th and early 20th century. Interesting stuff and a history that is now all but forgotten. Nothing much could be seen in Alexandra Dock. Only the LERRIX could be seen with the funnels and derrick tops of a couple of the other longtime residents in evidence. Various tugs could be seen at Dean's scrapyard (sic.) Up at king the vessel that I had seen on the horizon proved to be either the NADJA or CONSTANZA WONSILD going onto Saltend. I continued to hang around a short while and caught the container VERITAS H coming in and the SEAWHEEL MERCHANT outward from the gantry at Goole. |
