Welcome
Hi, welcome to my Humber Shipping photo gallery.

I've been taking photographs of shipping on the River Humber and in the Hull Docklands since getting my first 35mm camera around 1990. Since that time I have amassed quite a collection of prints of all manner of vessels.

I do not class my self as a professional or expert in any way. I am however quite keen in my pursuits and try my best to make good quality images whenever possible despite the often less than desirable weather conditions that one encounters out on the River Humber.

Due to ABP revoking all docks passes because of H&S and the contstant threats that terrorists pose I do not have any direct access to the docklands. Because of this the vast majority of my images will be of vessels out on the Rivers themselves, of vessels arriving/departing and a few on the private wharves. I do however have a modicum of access to Goole Docks as the security level on there is much less than elsewhere with it not being a ferry port.

On this gallery I intend to show some of the more interesting shots mainly from my digital camera's. I will not be making any judgements on this site as to wether a vessel should be displayed, indeed I intend to cover all manner or merchant vessels from inland barges and small tankers to the largest bulk carriers that visit the humber.

The bulk of my photo's will be from the Hull Docks and the Riverfront at Hull due to me not having any transport. I will however endeavour to get further afield when the opportunities arise.

I've just recently gotten back into photography after a long hiatus due to work commitments etc. With my work patterns having changed quite dramaticaly of late, I now have much more time to get out and about and I am making the most of it whilst I can.

For my traditional 35mm photo's I have a number of 35mm camera bodies including a RIOCH KR-10 super / KR-10M / XR-P / XR-20sp / PENTAX P30 / Pentax *ist and MZ-S along with an assortment of zoom and prime lenses that cover the 16mm - 500mm focal length.

For my digital photography shots I shoot primarily using a Samsung GX-10 (10MP), Samsung GX1L - rebadged Pentax *ist DL - (6.1 MP), Nikon Coolpix 8700 (8 MP fixed 35-360mm) and a Minolta Dimage 7 (5.2 MP fixed 28-200mm) that are used as a backups to the Samsung.

Please note that unlike other sites all of the photo's displayed photos remain essentially as taken. If any adjustments have been made it is usually only in cropping, and slight adjustments in the levels and contrast to make the most of what is there.

Whilst out and about I do see a number of other people taking shipping photos from time to time. Come and introduce yourself. I don't bite honestly! Besides it can be a lonely life as a ship photographer.
